To require county registers of deeds to appoint one or more deputies as considered necessary to perform the functions and duties of that office, and designate one as chief deputy. Under current law, a register of deeds must appoint a deputy who serves at the register’s pleasure. The the county board of commissioners would have to approve the number of county register of deeds office personnel.
