A bill to amend 1998 PA 386, entitled “Estates and protected individuals code,” by amending section 5423 (MCL 700.5423), as amended by 2012 PA 173.
Senate Bills 585 and 586 strengthen Michigan’s guardianship and conservatorship laws by requiring professional appraisals before the sale or encumbrance of protected individuals’ property, limiting guardians’ powers, and enhancing judicial oversight, accountability, and transparency to better safeguard the rights and assets of vulnerable individuals.
