Whereas, The Michigan Air Guard Historical Association was established in 1975 with the mission of preserving and celebrating Michigan’s military aviation heritage; and
Whereas, The Association’s founding vision led to the creation of the Selfridge Military Air Museum, an institution dedicated to safeguarding Michigan’s proud aviation history, inspiring future generations, and honoring the men and women who have served in our nation’s armed forces; and
Whereas, For five decades, the Museum has showcased historic aircraft, engines, cockpits, and artifacts spanning more than a century of flight at Selfridge Field – the second oldest continually operating military airfield in the United States; and
Whereas, The Association has provided educational programming partnered with schools, veterans’ organizations, and community groups, and recently expanded its reach through the creation of a 50-by-80-foot Aviation Education Center, integrating STEAM learning and connecting the aircraft of the past to the innovators of tomorrow; and
Whereas, The Selfridge Military Air Museum has earned widespread recognition for excellence, having been voted Macomb’s Best Museum by the readers of the Macomb Daily, a testament to its impact and reputation within the community; and
Whereas, Through these efforts, the Michigan Air Guard Historical Association and its dedicated volunteers have ensured that the stories, machines, and memories defining Michigan’s deep connection to aviation remain alive for future generations; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body recognize the Michigan Air Guard Historical Association on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. We commend its unwavering commitment to education, community engagement, and honoring all who have served in defense of our nation.
