2026 Senate Resolution 90

A resolution to recognize January 2026 as Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

Whereas, Human trafficking, whether in the form of sex trafficking or forced labor, is a threat to global security, public safety, freedom, and human dignity; and

Whereas, Traffickers are known to use fraud, intimidation, and coercion to control victims and force them to engage in commercial sex acts or forced labor against their will; and

Whereas, The United Nations’ International Labor Organization estimates that human traffickers victimize 27.6 million people annually; and

Whereas, Traffickers are willing to exploit anyone, regardless of age, sex, socioeconomic background, nationality, or immigration status, as long as they believe they can make a profit; and

Whereas, According to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, there were approximately 340 cases and 585 victims of human trafficking in Michigan in 2024; and

Whereas, Public awareness is crucial for combatting human trafficking, as it empowers communities to identify indicators of trafficking, report suspicious activity, support victims, and demand action; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate, That the members of this legislative body recognize January 2026 as Human Trafficking Prevention Month; and be it further

Resolved, That we recognize the law enforcement officers, agencies, advocacy organizations, and service providers who work tirelessly to prevent trafficking and support survivors in Michigan. We renew our efforts to prevent human trafficking by way of legislation and public education.
