2026 House Resolution 340

A resolution to declare July 1, 2026, as Food Day in the state of Michigan.

Whereas, Food plays a vital role in supporting the health, well-being, and quality of life of all people; and Whereas, Michigan is one of the most agriculturally diverse states in the nation, producing a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products, and other agricultural products that contribute significantly to the state’s economy and way of life; and

Whereas, Farmers, farmworkers, food producers, processors, distributors, retailers, and countless others throughout the food supply chain help ensure that food reaches households across Michigan; and

Whereas, Charitable organizations, food banks, faith communities, schools, community groups, and volunteers work tirelessly to support individuals and families facing food insecurity; and

Whereas, There are Michigan residents who experience challenges in accessing nutritious food, including children, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, and working families; and

Whereas, Recognizing the importance of food and raising awareness of hunger-related challenges can help strengthen communities and encourage support for efforts that improve food access; and

Whereas, July 1 provides an opportunity to recognize the importance of food to our daily lives, honor those who contribute to Michigan’s food system, and increase awareness of the challenges faced by individuals and families experiencing food insecurity; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare July 1, 2026, as Food Day in the state of Michigan; and be it further

Resolved, That we recognize the importance of food to the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities throughout our state; and be it further

Resolved, That we honor Michigan’s farmers, farmworkers, food producers, food assistance organizations, volunteers, and community leaders whose efforts help ensure that food reaches families and communities across Michigan; and be it further

Resolved, That we encourage all Michiganders to observe this day by learning about the importance of food, supporting local agriculture and food programs, and recognizing the contributions of those who work every day to strengthen Michigan’s food system.
