2026 House Resolution 261

A resolution to declare March 12, 2026, as Endometriosis Awareness Day in the state of Michigan.

Whereas, Endometriosis is a chronic disease of the female reproductive system that occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, often causing severe pelvic pain, inflammation, and other serious health complications; and

Whereas, Endometriosis is a leading cause of infertility and affects an estimated 10 percent of women and girls of reproductive age worldwide—approximately 190 million individuals—and many patients experience a significant delay in diagnosis, with an average of seven years between the onset of symptoms and confirmed diagnosis; and

Whereas, The physical, emotional, and economic impacts of endometriosis are substantial. Individuals living with the disease often experience chronic pain and other debilitating symptoms that can affect daily life, employment, and overall well-being; and

Whereas, Research indicates that individuals with endometriosis may lose significant work productivity due to symptoms, including pain and related health complications, and many report that the condition negatively affects their ability to maintain employment and participate fully in everyday activities; and

Whereas, The estimated annual societal cost of endometriosis-related symptoms in the United States has been estimated to exceed $50 billion, reflecting the combined impact of health care costs and lost productivity; and

Whereas, There is currently no known cure for endometriosis. Continued research, increased public awareness, and improved education for patients, families, and health care providers are critical for promoting early recognition of symptoms, timely diagnosis, and improved treatment options; and

Whereas, Endometriosis Awareness Month provides an opportunity to increase public understanding of this often misunderstood disease, support those affected by it, and encourage ongoing research and advocacy efforts aimed at improving the health and well-being of individuals living with endometriosis; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare March 12, 2026 as Endometriosis Awareness Month in the state of Michigan. We recognize the significant impact this disease has on the health, well-being, and quality of life of those affected, and we encourage continued education, research, and support for individuals living with endometriosis.
