A bill to regulate the use of automatic license plate reader systems by private entities; to regulate the use of captured license plate data; and to provide for remedies.
House Bills 5492 and 5493 would regulate automatic license plate reader use in Michigan by restricting data retention and sharing, establishing oversight and accountability rules for private and government users, and strengthening privacy protections and remedies for violations.
