A bill to require certain state and local governmental officers and entities to notify a county department of veterans’ affairs or county board of commissioners of a report of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a veteran; and to provide for the powers and duties of certain state and local governmental officers and entities.
House Bills 5263, 5267, 5268, and 5269 collectively strengthen protections for veterans in state facilities by expanding the Veterans’ Facility Ombudsman’s investigative authority, tightening abuse reporting and oversight requirements, and mandating coordinated, timely responses from state and local agencies to ensure veterans receive appropriate support, all contingent on related legislation.
