2026 House Resolution 333

Whereas, Michigan has recently emerged as a national leader in solar energy development and is ranked among the top states for new solar installations; and

Whereas, Michigan has long been a state defined by innovation, manufacturing excellence, and a commitment to building the technologies that power America’s future; and

Whereas, Michigan continues to demonstrate that leadership through unprecedented growth in renewable energy development, attracting investment, creating jobs, and strengthening the state’s economy; and

Whereas, According to a report released by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and Wood Mackenzie, Michigan ranked seventh in the nation for new solar installations during the first quarter of 2026, placing the state among the nation’s leaders in solar energy growth; and

Whereas, Michigan’s achievement reflects the hard work of thousands of skilled workers, engineers, electricians, construction trades professionals, manufacturers, farmers, local officials, and businesses who are helping build a stronger and more resilient energy future; and

Whereas, Utility-scale solar projects and distributed solar investments are creating good-paying jobs, generating new revenue for local communities, supporting family farms, and expanding economic opportunities across urban, suburban, and rural Michigan; and

Whereas, The growth of Michigan’s solar industry is helping to diversify the state’s energy portfolio, improve energy reliability, increase domestic energy production, and reduce dependence on volatile fuel markets; and

Whereas, Michigan’s leadership in clean energy development strengthens its competitiveness in attracting new businesses and industries seeking reliable, affordable, and sustainable sources of energy; and

Whereas, Continued investment in solar energy supports workforce development, innovation, and advanced manufacturing while positioning Michigan to remain at the forefront of the rapidly growing clean energy economy; and

Whereas, Michigan’s success demonstrates that economic growth, energy security, and environmental stewardship can advance together, creating lasting benefits for future generations; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare June 17, 2026, as Solar Energy Awareness Day in the state of Michigan. We recognize Michigan’s ranking among the nation’s leading states for new solar energy installations and honor the state’s continued leadership in renewable energy development, innovation, and job creation; and be it further

Resolved, That we commend the workers, businesses, communities, farmers, utilities, manufacturers, educators, and policymakers whose efforts have contributed to Michigan’s remarkable growth in solar energy and helped position the state as a national leader in the clean energy economy.
