Whereas, Michigan is stronger because we honor and respect our elders and residents of any age with physical or intellectual disabilities who reside in skilled nursing facilities in Michigan; and,
Whereas, Skilled nursing facilities throughout Michigan are holding activities in observance of National Skilled Nursing Care Week, May 10-16, 2026; and
Whereas, Established by the American Health Care Association in 1967, Skilled Nursing Care Week starts each year on Mother’s Day and encourages skilled nursing facilities around the country to host a variety of events that shine a light on the individuals who reside, work, and volunteer in nursing facilities; and
Whereas, “Moments in Bloom!”, this year’s theme for National Skilled Nursing Care Week, reflects how every act of compassion, connection, and teamwork grow into meaningful experiences for residents, families and staff, and celebrates the idea that big and small moments, when nurtured, can flourish to help residents live life to the fullest and with purpose; and
Whereas, Michigan nursing facilities are committed to quality health care, we take this moment to embrace the essence of the theme “Moments in Bloom!”; and
Whereas, National Skilled Nursing, May 10-16, 2026, provides a great opportunity to recognize the dedication of nurses at these facilities who offer professional and compassionate care, and honor the efforts of volunteers and loved ones who provide support to those in skilled nursing facilities; and
Whereas, This is a great time for citizens throughout Michigan to visit a loved one, family member or friend residing in any care setting and offer a kind word and spend time participating in various activities to unite those from all walks of life in need of our continuing love and support; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare May 10-16, 2026, as Skilled Nursing Care Week in the state of Michigan.
