2026 House Resolution 295

A resolution calling on residents, employers, and community organizations in the state of Michigan to promote awareness of workers’ rights and protections in the workplace.

Whereas, Michigan’s workforce benefits from the right to organize, bargain collectively, and advocate for fair wages, benefits, and workplace protections. Worker empowerment contributes to strong communities, a thriving middle class, and expanded pathways to economic opportunity; and

Whereas, The solidarity of Michigan workers helped build the 20th-century economy and played a significant role in shaping workplace standards across the nation. Hardworking Michiganders who keep this state running deserve accessible information and resources regarding their workplace rights and protections; and

Whereas, As declared by the Governor, Workplace Rights Week in Michigan is April 27 through May 1, 2026. During this week, employers, community organizations, and workers will be reaffirming and celebrating the hard-fought rights and protections of workers across the state. Michigan recognizes that economic development and supporting workers are complementary priorities that strengthen the state’s long-term prosperity; and

Whereas, The collective efforts of the Bureau of Employment Relations, the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Workers’ Disability Compensation Agency, and the Wage and Hour Division within the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity help ensure that workers and employers understand and uphold workplace standards. Promoting awareness of these resources helps working people better understand their rights and strengthens compliance, fairness, and accountability in workplaces across the state; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we call on residents, employers, and community organizations in the state of Michigan to promote the awareness of workers’ rights and protections in the workplace; and be it further

Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Director of the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.
