2026 House Resolution 289

A resolution to declare April 21, 2026, as Michigan and Taiwan Partnership Appreciation Day in the state of Michigan.

Whereas, Taiwan shares the values of freedom, democracy, human rights, the rule of law, peace, and prosperity with the United States and the state of Michigan; and

Whereas, The United States is Taiwan’s second-largest trading partner and Taiwan is a top trading partner of the United States; and

Whereas, Trade between the United States and Taiwan has grown significantly in recent years, strengthening supply chains, industrial cooperation, innovation, and talent exchange; and

Whereas, Taiwan is an important market for United States agricultural exports, benefiting American farmers, including those in Michigan; and

Whereas, Taiwan contributes to global humanitarian efforts through medical assistance, disaster relief, and public health initiatives; and

Whereas, Taiwan promotes democratic values and regional stability in the Indo-Pacific; and

Whereas, Taiwan and the state of Michigan have enjoyed a long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship, with Taiwan serving as a key export market for Michigan goods; and

Whereas, Michigan’s Taiwanese American community has enriched the state’s culture, economy, and civic life; and

Whereas, The year 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, reflecting the nation’s enduring commitment to liberty and democracy; and

Whereas, The year 2026 also marks the 30th anniversary of Taiwan’s 1996 presidential election, highlighting the importance of democratic governance and stability in the Taiwan Strait; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare April 21, 2026, as Michigan and Taiwan Partnership Appreciation Day in the state of Michigan. We recognize and celebrate the strong and enduring relationship between the state of Michigan and Taiwan; and be it further

Resolved, That we honor the shared democratic values, economic cooperation, and cultural connections that continue to strengthen this partnership; and be it further

Resolved, That we recognize the contributions of Taiwan to global commerce, public health, and humanitarian efforts; and be it further

Resolved, That we celebrate the contributions of the Taiwanese American community to the state of Michigan; and be it further

Resolved, That we express appreciation for the ongoing friendship and cooperation between the people of both Michigan and Taiwan.
