Whereas, By joining the Michigan Organ Donor Registry, over 4.6 million Michiganders have made known their profound compassion for others, as well as their willingness to, truly, give of themselves for the benefit of others; and
Whereas, The gift of organs, eyes, and tissue are life changing to those who receive these incredible gifts; and
Whereas, Living donors and the families of donors who arranged to donate of themselves upon their passing, can take great pride and comfort in the knowledge that, through their gift, others will live longer and healthier lives; and
Whereas, The breadth and depth of the impact of organ donation cannot be overstated, with more than 4,000 organ and tissue donations having contributed to the betterment of many more thousands of lives; and
Whereas, One person can donate eight life-saving organs, and tissue and cornea donations can heal on average 75 patients, with the potential of 125 patients; and
Whereas, Giving the gift of life through organ, tissue, and eye donation, needs to be acknowledged and celebrated as a selfless act of immeasurable generosity with profound life altering effects; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare April 2026 as National Donate Life Month in the state of Michigan; and be it further
Resolved, That we recognize the magnanimous nature of those registered as donors; and be it further
Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to Michigan Donor Registry Partners: Donate Life America, Eversight, and Gift of Life of Michigan, as an expression of our appreciation for their efforts to support this worthy cause and for those who donate of themselves to others.
