Whereas, Women have played a vital role in shaping our communities, strengthening our families, advancing our economy, and defending our freedoms; and
Whereas, Throughout history, women have broken barriers in government, education, science, business, the arts, and athletics, often overcoming significant obstacles to secure equal opportunity; and
Whereas, The observance of Women’s History Month traces its roots to International Women’s Day and was nationally recognized in 1987 when the United States Congress designated the month of March as Women’s History Month; and
Whereas, The progress achieved by generations of women did not occur by accident, but through courage, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to fairness and equal opportunity; and
Whereas, Recognizing Women’s History Month provides an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of women past and present. It is important to honor and commemorate the past accomplishments women have made to advance our society, while recognizing how these achievements continue to inspire and shape opportunities for young women in our state and nation; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare March 2026 as Women’s History Month in the state of Michigan. We encourage all citizens to honor and celebrate the historic achievements and ongoing contributions of women in our state and nation.
