A bill to provide for a state veterans cemetery in the Upper Peninsula; to provide for a comprehensive location analysis and feasibility study to determine the best location for the veterans cemetery; to authorize the acquisition or purchase of land or an interest in land; to allow the designation of state-owned land as a veterans cemetery; to create the Upper Peninsula veterans cemetery fund and provide for the distribution of money from that fund; and to provide for the powers and duties of certain state governmental officers and entities.
House Bills 5843 and 5844 appropriate $5,725,000 from Michigan's general fund for the fiscal year 2025-2026 to support the establishment and operation of a state veterans cemetery in the Upper Peninsula, including staffing, a feasibility study, and a dedicated cemetery fund.
