A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled “The revised school code,” by amending section 1278 (MCL 380.1278), as amended by 2016 PA 170, and by adding sections 1164, 1164a, 1164c, 1164d, 1164e, 1164f, and 1164g.
Senate Bill No. 453 mandates Michigan public schools to include comprehensive, inclusive instruction on the histories and contributions of multiple racial, ethnic, and cultural groups in their curricula starting in the 2027-2028 school year, with oversight and materials developed in accordance with state standards and civil rights protections.
