Corrections: prisoners; provision of prison code relating to productivity time credit system; create.

A bill to amend 1893 PA 118, entitled “An act to revise and consolidate the laws relative to state prisons, to state houses of correction, and branches of state prisons and reformatories, and the government and discipline thereof and to repeal all acts inconsistent therewith,” (MCL 800.33 to 800.61) by adding section 33a.

Creates system of productivity time credits in state prisons. 20 days for each month enrolled in educational or vocational program. 90 days for completing MDOC recommended program that does not lead to GED or other academic credential. 120 days for earning GED, HS diploma, or higher ed degree. Participants are ineligible to receive credits in any month they are found to have committed major misconduct, scored very high risk on most recent validated risk and needs assessment, or assigned to category V or VI housing unit. Maximum total credit allowed is the lesser of 20% of minimum sentence.
