2019 Senate Bill 633

Repeal ban on social promotions of 3rd graders who can’t read

Introduced in the Senate

Nov. 5, 2019

Introduced by Sen. Dayna Polehanki (D-7)

To repeal the provisions of a 2016 law that banned “social promotions” of third graders to the next grade if they don’t know how to read. The bill would instead advance these children to the next grade and require school districts to provide a “reading intervention program that is intended to correct the pupil's specific reading deficiency”.
