To give new public school teachers a one-time bonus of either $3,000, $4,000 or $5,000 for choosing to work at a school where at least 50 percent, 60 percent or 70 percent of the children, respectively, come from households with income low enough to make them eligible for a federal free or reduced-price school lunch program. This would not apply if an existing teachers union contract prohibits it. This is part of a Democratic teacher incentives package comprised of Senate Bills 764 to 782.
