2004 House Bill 5447

Introduced in the House

Feb. 4, 2004

Introduced by Rep. Mickey Mortimer (R-65)

To require the Department of Environmental Quality to inspect solid waste imports from Canada at the border to determine whether they comply with Michigan law, or pose a health and safety threat. The inspections would be paid for with a fee charged to the municipality that generated the waste (rather than the shipper). Note: The City of Toronto’s contract with the shipping company that hauls the city’s waste to Michigan landfills requires that the shipper be responsible for any additional fees levied in Michigan. See House Bills 5448 and 5449.

Referred to the Committee on Land Use and Environment
