2003 House Bill 5359

Make sex-ed classes optional electives

Introduced in the House

Dec. 9, 2003

Introduced by Rep. Ruth Johnson (R-46)

To make sex education classes in public school an elective provided separately from the rest of the school curriculum, and prohibit schools from making the courses a graduation requirement. This would replace a provision in current law requiring schools to excuse a child from sex education classes upon receiving a written request from a student or the student's parent or guardian.
