2017 House Bill 5061

Disclose companies getting multi-million dollar annual MEGA payments

Introduced in the House

Oct. 4, 2017

Introduced by Rep. John Reilly (R-46)

To require the Department of Treasury to reveal the names of the companies that in the late 2000s were selected to receive ongoing cash payments and tax breaks under an economic development program called MEGA. A number of firms are still receiving payments totaling hundreds of millions a year, and the bill would require the department to disclose which firms and how much they are getting, in both cash payments and forgone taxes not paid to the state. This information is currently hidden from the public.
