2026 Senate Resolution 137

Whereas, Small businesses are the backbone of Michigan’s economy and are powerful engines for job creation, innovation, and community development; and

Whereas, Government contracting represents a significant economic opportunity that can help small businesses grow, create jobs, and build long-term economic resilience; and

Whereas, The APEX Accelerator program serves as the nation’s premier resource for helping businesses access government contracting opportunities and become suppliers to the U.S. Department of Defense and other federal agencies; and

Whereas, The Michigan APEX Accelerator network works to ensure that small businesses have access to training, technical assistance, and resources needed to compete successfully for government contracts; and

Whereas, By helping diverse businesses navigate complex procurement systems, APEX Accelerators create pathways to economic opportunity and participation in public contracting; and

Whereas, During the 2025 reporting period, Michigan’s APEX Accelerators supported more than 3,200 businesses that secured over $2.3 billion in government contract awards, supporting nearly 25,000 jobs across communities throughout the state; and

Whereas, These outcomes demonstrate how targeted small-business assistance can promote equitable economic development, strengthen local economies, and expand opportunities for entrepreneurs of every background; and

Whereas, APEX Day is an opportunity to recognize the counselors, business owners, economic development organizations, and community partners who help create a more inclusive and competitive economy; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate, That the members of this legislative body recognize October 8, 2026, as APEX Day; and be it further

Resolved, That we commend Michigan’s APEX Accelerators for expanding opportunity and supporting small businesses in government procurement and economic growth.
