Whereas, The foundation of our republic and Michigan rests upon the enduring principles of liberty and justice enshrined in the United States Constitution and the Constitution of the state of Michigan; and
Whereas, These foundational documents guarantee fundamental, inalienable rights to all citizens, including, but not limited to, due process, equal protection under the law, freedom of speech, and freedom of religion; and
Whereas, The application or substitution of any foreign law, foreign legal code, or religious directive in adjudicatory proceedings in this state, when such application would violate a fundamental right guaranteed by our state and federal constitutions, is contrary to the established legal framework of our nation; and
Whereas, The state of Michigan has a compelling interest in shielding its citizens from the imposition of any legal code, ideology, or foreign influence that undermines American principles of constitutional supremacy and individual liberty; and
Whereas, It is imperative to unequivocally reject and condemn any organizations, whether foreign or domestic, that advocate for the dissolution of these constitutional protections or promote violence and terror to achieve ideological ends; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate, That we reaffirm the supremacy of the United States and Michigan Constitutions in all matters of law, governance, and justice within the state; and be it further
Resolved, That we declare our enduring commitment to protecting the fundamental constitutional rights of all Michiganians against any infringement, including the application of foreign laws or religious codes in our public courts; and be it further
Resolved, That we condemn any and all organizations that seek to subvert these constitutional protections or employ terrorism and violence against the people of the United States and the state of Michigan.
