2026 House Resolution 351

Whereas, The members of this chamber were much saddened to hear of the passing of Cynthia “Cindy” Denby, a dedicated public servant for her constituents in Livingston County and the people of the state of Michigan; and

Whereas, Cindy was born on December 11, 1955 in Howell, Michigan. After attending Lansing Community College, she committed decades of her life to serving the people of Livingston County. Cindy worked for many years as a legislative aide, was elected and served eight years as Handy Township Clerk, and served a further eight years as Handy Township Supervisor; and

Whereas, In 2009, Cindy headed to Lansing after being elected to represent the Forty-Seventh District in the Michigan House of Representatives. During her three terms as a member of the House, Cindy had a reputation with constituents for answering the call and following through with a solution. She was also known for fiercely advocating for causes she believed in while doing so with integrity, kindness, and positivity. During her tenure, Cindy served as vice chair of the Agriculture Committee and minority vice chair of the Insurance Committee, and as a member of the committees on Health Policy; Intergovernmental and Regional Affairs; New Economy and Quality of Life; Commerce; Oversight, Reform, and Ethics; Families, Children, and Seniors; Financial Liability Reform; and Regulatory Reform; and

Whereas, Alongside her dedication to the public, Cindy had an unwavering commitment and love for her family. Family was the center of Cindy’s world and was her greatest source of pride and joy. Cindy married the love of her life, Wayne “Fred” Denby, and had a loving marriage that spanned five decades. She and Fred raised two children, Angela and Brandon, and she became a dedicated grandmother to five grandchildren. Cindy would always show up for family when needed, hosting detailed family events, celebrating every holiday, gifting homemade crafts, attending football games and dance recitals, and teaching her grandchildren to knit; and

Whereas, Cindy will be remembered for her kindness, strength, spirit of service, and dedication to her family and community. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Fred; her children, Angela and Brandon; her brother, Jim; her grandchildren, Adrienne, Colton, Ariella, Adeline, and Alison; and many extended family members. We offer our condolences to Cynthia’s loved ones as they grieve her loss; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we offer this expression of our highest tribute to honor the memory of Cynthia Denby, a member of the House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014; and be it further

Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the Denby family as evidence of our lasting esteem for her memory.
