Whereas, Primary care is prevention, wellness, and treatment for common illnesses, including regular check-ups, care coordination, and chronic condition management, addressing most of a person’s health needs throughout their life; and
Whereas, For decades, primary care has been a critical part of our healthcare system and patients’ lives, offering the opportunity for continuous care, disease prevention, health monitoring, and other lifesaving and life-sustaining supports; and
Whereas, Primary care is vital to improving the health and quality of life for Michiganders across both peninsulas in urban, suburban, and rural areas; and
Whereas, With a strong primary care network, Michigan’s population could see a decrease in preventable diseases and, in turn, individuals and families could see lower healthcare costs; and
Whereas, In honor of Michigan Primary Care Week, we uplift and celebrate primary care, the establishments where it takes place, and the provider teams that work hard to make care possible; and
Whereas, This week is an opportunity to raise awareness about the benefits of primary care being accessible, affordable, and commonplace; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare August 23-29, 2026, as Primary Care Week in the state of Michigan.
