2026 House Resolution 298

A resolution to commemorate April 29, 2026, as the 85th anniversary of the International Peace Memorial in Detroit, Michigan.

Whereas, The International Peace Memorial was erected in 1941 on Belle Isle in the city of Detroit as a lasting symbol of peace and friendship between two neighboring nations; and

Whereas, April 29, 2026, marks the 85th anniversary of the International Peace Memorial, providing an opportunity to reflect on its historical and symbolic significance; and

Whereas, The memorial was constructed by the Monument Builders of America during their convention in Detroit as a tribute to the longstanding peaceful relationship between the United States and Canada; and

Whereas, The United States and Canada are characterized by a shared border of more than 5,500 miles; and

Whereas, The people of Michigan, especially those in the Detroit region, benefit from this relationship through cultural exchange, commerce, and regional cooperation; and

Whereas, The International Peace Memorial stands as a reminder of the importance of peaceful international relationships and serves as a symbol of unity; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body commemorate April 29, 2026, as the 85th anniversary of the International Peace Memorial in Detroit, Michigan. We honor its enduring symbolism of peace and friendship between the United States and Canada; and be it further

Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to appropriate officials as a token of esteem from the Michigan House of Representatives.
