Whereas, Future Farmers of America was founded in 1928 and later became known as the National FFA Organization. In 1950, Congress granted the organization a federal charter, formally recognizing FFA as an essential component of public agricultural education under the National Vocational Education Act; and
Whereas, The National FFA Organization is composed of 1,042,245 student members enrolled in grades seven through twelve, with Michigan leading the nation in rate of growth; and
Whereas, These members are part of 9,407 local FFA chapters located throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, 130 of which reside in Michigan; and
Whereas, FFA functions at the local, state, and national levels, with student members participating through local chapters guided by agricultural educators serving as chapter advisors; and
Whereas, FFA members elect their own student leadership, who are responsible for planning and carrying out activities under the direction and mentorship of their advisors; and
Whereas, State-level FFA organizations host annual conventions that allow members to demonstrate their knowledge and skills through competitions based on practical, real-world agricultural applications; and
Whereas, Participation in local, state, and national FFA programs promotes the development of public speaking abilities, meeting management, financial literacy, problem-solving skills, and responsible civic engagement; and
Whereas, The National FFA Convention serves as the organization’s premier event, providing national recognition for student achievement and excellence; and
Whereas, The National FFA Organization has broadened access to careers across the agricultural industry, helping members prepare for professions in agribusiness, agri-marketing, science, communications, education, horticulture, production agriculture, natural resources, forestry, and many other related fields; and
Whereas, FFA members contribute meaningfully to their communities through service while preparing to become the next generation of leaders equipped to meet future challenges; and
Whereas, More than 802,412 FFA Alumni and Supporters nationwide continue to support and advocate for agricultural education; and
Whereas, Members of the FFA Organization will observe National FFA Week during the week of February 21 through 28, 2026; now therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body hereby declare February 21-28, 2026, as National FFA Week in the state of Michigan. We encourage all citizens to recognize and celebrate the National FFA Organization for its commitment to hands-on learning and its role in developing students for leadership, personal growth, and career success.
