A bill to amend 1956 PA 218, entitled “The insurance code of 1956,” by amending sections 3101, 3104, 3107c, 3107d, 3114, 3135, and 3172 (MCL 500.3101, 500.3104, 500.3107c, 500.3107d, 500.3114, 500.3135, and 500.3172), section 3101 as amended by 2024 PA 224, sections 3104, 3114, and 3172 as amended by 2019 PA 21, and sections 3107c and 3107d as added and section 3135 as amended by 2019 PA 22; and to repeal acts and parts of acts.
House Bills 5886 thru 5889 overhaul Michigan's auto insurance system by allowing consumers to opt out of personal protection insurance after June 30, 2027, raising catastrophic claims thresholds, and increasing transparency requirements for the catastrophic claims association.
