A bill to amend 1999 PA 276, entitled “Banking code of 1999,” (MCL 487.11101 to 487.15105) by amending the title, as amended by 2016 PA 175, and by adding section 4101a.
House Bills 5238–5240 would bar Michigan banks, savings banks, and credit unions from denying financial services to agricultural producers based on ESG-related environmental criteria, create presumptions of violation for institutions with ESG commitments, and impose updated enforcement mechanisms and civil fines.
