A bill to amend 1927 PA 175, entitled “The code of criminal procedure,” by amending section 16l of chapter XVII (MCL 777.16l), as amended by 2016 PA 150.
House Bills 5035-5039 collectively strengthen Michigan’s legal framework around assisted reproduction and related criminal conduct by establishing civil remedies for victims, criminal penalties for false representation and unauthorized genetic use, expanded disciplinary authority under the Public Health Code, clarified statutes of limitations for serious and DNA-based crimes, and updated sentencing guidelines for new offenses, all aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and justice within the state’s reproductive and criminal justice systems.
