2022 Senate Bill 978

Expand candidate filing requirements

Introduced in the Senate

March 23, 2022

Introduced by Sen. Wayne Schmidt (R-37)

To require an “affidavit of identity” that candidates for office must file to also contain “every jurisdiction in this state in which the candidate previously sought nomination or election,” and where candidates were subject to state campaign finance disclosure mandates. The bill would also require local election officials to review these statements, and empower them to disqualify from running a candidate whose submission includes an uncorrected “false statement”.
