2021 Senate Bill 122

Mandate environmental “risk assessments” for Great Lake shoreline properties

Introduced in the Senate

Feb. 10, 2021

Introduced by Sen. Stephanie Chang (D-1)

To require regulators to create “risk assessment for environmental contamination” for every property bordering on a Great Lake or connecting waterway that currently or formerly was used for industrial or commercial purposes. This would have to cover seven specific areas including the history of the parcel, contamination if any, whether it is being “actively monitored,” compliance with legal obligations, “reasonably foreseeable water levels” and more.
