2021 House Bill 5466

Impose statewide tax and regulation on Airbnb-type services and clients

Introduced in the House

Oct. 21, 2021

Introduced by Rep. Mark Tisdel (R-45)

To impose a statewide 5% excise tax on revenue property owners collect from renting out a home or rooms as a short-term Airbnb type rental, and impose a $100 per listing “hosting tax” tax on Airbnb-type short term rental platform companies, capped at $50,000 annually. Along with House Bill 5465 this would also impose a statewide registration mandate on these property owners and require they have $1 million or more in liability insurance on each unit, which would have to have a carbon monoxide detector, smoke detector and fire extinguisher.
