2020 House Bill 6147

Require unemployment bureau communications use plain English

Introduced in the House

Sept. 1, 2020

Introduced by Rep. Lori Stone (D-28)

To require the state unemployment agency to use plain English in communications and determinations sent to employers and benefit claimants, meaning they are clear and concise, avoid complex vocabulary and are based on a fourth-grade reading level. This would apply to communications on employers’ taxes and individuals’ benefits, and to the agency’s policies and rules.
