2020 House Bill 5890

Revise meat sale details in weights and measures law

Introduced in the House

June 23, 2020

Introduced by Rep. Scott VanSingel (R-100)

To add rules for meat sales to the state weights and measures act. The bill would establish that “all meat and meat products…must be offered or exposed for sale and sold by weight or primal cut. As used in this subsection, ‘primal cut’ means the wholesale cut into which the carcass of a food animal is divided, and includes, but is not limited to, chuck, rib, loin, sirloin, round, shank, brisket, plate, flank, leg, rack, shoulder, foreshank, side, picnic shoulder, and shoulder buff.” This would not apply to food sold for immediate consumption or to packaged ready-to-eat meals.
