2019 House Concurrent Resolution 10

Give state Supreme Court justices a raise

Offered in the House

Sept. 19, 2019

Offered by Rep. Graham Filler (R-93)

To approve a determination by the State Officers Compensation Commission to give state Supreme Court justices a 5% salary raise in both 2021 and 2022. The commission did not recommend any increases for legislators or state officers including the governor, as the pattern has been for legislators to reject these politically sensitive increases, but to approve Supreme Court raises. Under the state constitution a majority of both the House and Senate must approve SOCC recommendations for them to go through; this was changed by a 2002 ballot initiative from a previous system where the recommendations went into effect unless the House and Senate voted to halt them with a two thirds majority.
