2018 House Bill 5716

Impose work requirement on able-bodied Medicaid recipients

Introduced in the House

March 13, 2018

Introduced by Rep. Lee Chatfield (R-107)

To require the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to petition the federal government for a “waiver” that would allow the state to impose work, job-training or community service requirements as a condition of able-bodied individuals accepting Medicaid health coverage benefits, with specified exceptions and alternatives. The bill would also require beneficiaries to verify family income on a quarterly basis, and impose financial sanctions on the agency if it deviates from the requirements.
