To replace an existing licensure and comprehensive regulatory regime imposed on elevator contractors, installers and inspectors with a new one. This issue entered the news recently when a a bill became law that exempts stairway and platform lifts for elderly or handicapped individuals in private residences from the same licensure mandates that apply to real elevators in high-rise buildings.
