2016 House Bill 5581

Revise 7/8th cent non-transportation gas tax uses

Introduced in the House

April 20, 2016

Introduced by Rep. Roger Victory (R-88)

To eliminate the sunset on a particular use of revenue from a 7/8ths cent-per-gallon gas tax that was originally supposed to clean up leaking underground fuel tanks and expire, but was extended and its revenue diverted to other spending by a 2004 "<a href="http://www.michiganvotes.org/2004-HB-6074">fund raid</a>." The bill would allow money from this source to be used for gas station inspection programs, which currently is not authorized after 2016.
