2013 Senate Bill 241

Increase former legislator health benefit copay

Introduced in the Senate

Feb. 28, 2013

Introduced by Sen. Bruce Caswell (R-16)

To require lawmakers who have been granted post-retirement health insurance benefits (which start at age 55) to pay 20 percent of the cost of this, up from the current 10 percent copay. This benefit was recently terminated on a prospective basis, but 36 out of 38 Senators (including this bill’s sponsor plus cosponsors Rick Jones and Howard Walker) and a handful of current House members were exempted and will still receive the benefit when they leave office.
