2011 House Bill 4706

Revise post-retirement health coverage for new legislators

Introduced in the House

June 7, 2011

Introduced by Rep. Dian Slavens (D-21)

To end the post-retirement health care insurance coverage provided to legislators. Under current law, legislators who have served six years get full health coverage beginning at age 55. Under this bill, legislators would instead be enrolled in the regular state employee retirement health benefits system, which pays a portion of post-retirement health benefits based on years of employment (for each year on the job employees get an additional 3 percent premium support, but are only vested after 10 years). However, the bill would only apply this to legislators starting in 2013.
