2009 Senate Bill 683

Ban school strip searches

Introduced in the Senate

July 15, 2009

Introduced by Sen. Glenn Anderson (D-6)

To prohibit school employees or volunteers from conducting a strip or cavity search of a student. The bill was introduced after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that such a search of a middle school girl suspected of possessing an ibuprofen tablet was an unconstitutional violation of this individual’s right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure, as recognized by the Fourth Amendment.
