2009 Senate Bill 445

Expand unemployment benefits to get “stimulus” money

Introduced in the Senate

April 21, 2009

Introduced by Sen. Tupac Hunter (D-5)

To grant extended unemployment benefits to unemployed individuals who exhaust regular benefits and are enrolled in a government job training program. Senate Bill 444 would extend benefits to individuals who are seeking only part-time work. Enactment of these provisions would enable the state to receive $138.9 million in additional federal “stimulus” money, but it would also impose an unemployment assessment (tax) increase of at least $69.7 million on Michigan employers.
