2009 Senate Bill 444

Expand unemployment benefits to get “stimulus” money

Introduced in the Senate

April 21, 2009

Introduced by Sen. Deborah Cherry (D-26)

To grant unemployment benefits to unemployed individuals who are seeking only part-time work. Senate Bill 445 would provide extended benefits to individuals who exhaust regular benefits and are enrolled in an government job training program. Enactment of these provisions would enable the state to receive $138.9 million in additional federal “stimulus” money, but it would also impose an unemployment assessment (tax) increase of at least $69.7 million on Michigan employers.
