2009 House Bill 4044

Require police to notify INS when illegal alien is arrested

Introduced in the House

Jan. 22, 2009

Introduced by Rep. Kimberly Meltzer (R-33)

To require local governments to notify local officials, officers, and employees that they have a duty to cooperate with appropriate federal officials concerning the immigration status of individuals, and require local peace officers who have probable cause to believe that an individual under arrest is an illegal alien to report that individual to the U.S. immigration and customs enforcement office. Local governments that fail to comply and/or fail to report annually to the legislature the number of illegal aliens reported would lose part of their state revenue sharing money.
