2008 Senate Bill 1238

Require legislative approval of expensive state rental deals

Introduced in the Senate

March 26, 2008

Introduced by Sen. Cameron Brown (R-16)

To require approval by the full legislature, and not just a smaller legislative joint outlay committee, for rental agreements in which the state agrees to pay a “base” of more than $1 million for the use of a particular facility. The bill comes after intense criticism of an annual $3.7 million lease of a new State Police headquarters in downtown Lansing (the “Triangle Project” owned by developer and prominent Democratic Party activist Joel Ferguson).
