2007 Senate Bill 902

Impose new fees and procedures on certain out-of-state waste

Introduced in the Senate

Nov. 8, 2007

Introduced by Sen. Tom George (R-20)

To require that all out-of-state waste from states whose landfill standards are less stringent than Michigan’s must go through a Michigan recovery facility to remove items banned from Michigan landfills. The bill would impose new inspection requirements on these facilities, and impose inspection fees of $5 per ton or $1.67 per cubic yard. Waste haulers would be required to return prohibited items back to where they came from.
