Increase property tax on “blighted” property

Introduced in the House

Oct. 10, 2007

Introduced by Rep. Coleman Young (D-4)

To place before voters in the next general election a Constitutional amendment to allow higher property tax assessments on property that is deemed “blighted” by local government officials. Under current law, property assessments are supposed to be 50 percent of the property’s true cash value. Under the resolution, for so-called “blighted” property the assessment would be 75 percent of true cash value.
