To repeal a use tax exemption on the purchase or lease of motion pictures, so that cinema companies would pay the tax on movies shown in theaters. to repeal a use tax exemption on toll free phone services (800-numbers, WATTS lines, etc.) This is one of $200 million in “revenue enhancement” or “tax expenditure” proposals included in Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s Fiscal Year 2005-2006 budget recommendation. The motion picture sales and use tax proposals would increase taxes paid by theaters approximately $20 million; the telecommunications measure would increase the taxes paid by citizens approximately $22 million.
